Josh and Jessi – Anthology story written by: “Chit”

*Alarm goes off* Jessi wakes up and turns off her alarm. She rolls over and looks out the window. “Fuck, time to get ready,” as she gets up and prepares for her day at school. Jessi gets dressed, braids her hair, puts on her makeup, and heads down the hallway. Her dad sees her walking to the door, “Hey, kid, you aren’t going like that… are you?” Jessi smiled, “Of course I am, Dad, why wouldn’t I?” He looked at her and pointed out the items he seemed to be disappointed with. “Well, are those stockings on your hands? Also, what are you trying to be from the Crow movie?” As he pointed at her face painted in black and white makeup. She gave him a smirk, “well duh dad, it’s coming back! Love you and see you after school!” She ran out the door, heading down the street.

She met up with her boyfriend, named Josh. “Hey, cutie, your head is looking more shiny than ever,” as she poked his bald head. Josh smiled, replying, “yea, it’s my new shampoo, ooo de alopecia,” he joked back with her. Josh looked at her, loving the new mask today! He pointed at her makeup and gave her a quick kiss. They might have been misunderstood, but they had each other.  They walked into the school, naturally, they had a few look and laugh at them while they held one another’s hands and walked down the hall to their lockers.

They get to their lockers that are right beside one another. Josh unlocked his locker, and all of a sudden, a soccer ball hit him in the head, nearly slamming his face into the locker itself. He looked down, hearing laughter. Another student came running up, “Sorry, Billy Corgan, I didn’t see you there, it seems like the reflection blinded me.” he smiled, laughing and ran off. Jessi looked at him, “Are you ok? I am sorry that kid’s a dick! We should tell someone,” Josh looked at Jessi and responded, “No, we are the silent, no one hears us speak.” Josh shut his locker just as the warning bell screamed. “I’ll see you at lunch?” Jessi looked at Josh. Josh smiled back, “well yea, who else is going to eat your fruit cup?” Jessi smiled and went to class.

Lunch time hit, and Josh went to sit down by Jessi. Jessi looked up, “Hey! Did you hear about that school accident? Some school called Happy Valley High?” Like, some girl killed a full class or something and took their teeth! Fucking insane, but man, I could wish for that sometimes with these assholes.” Josh grabbed his milk and opened it, “I didn’t hear anything about that? When did that happen?” Jessi looked at him, confused, “Really? Happened Halloween night!” Josh laughed, “wow, so cliché and let me guess, they never found the killed, dun dun duuuun” Jessi smirked, “if you were listening to what I said I said some girl did it, she had their teeth in her hand!” Josh got curious and eyebrow rose, “like, teeth of the victims? Or her teeth?” “Teeth of all the murdered kids, dumbass”, she responded. Josh looked out the side, seeing the same kid who threw the soccerball at his head, “man, sometimes I wish I could do that.. especially to him,” as he nodded over to the kid. “I hate that he calls me Billy Corgan; it makes no sense to me.” Jessi smiled, “Well, Billy Corgan shaves his head, and I also find him attractive, so take that as a compliment,” as she winked at him with a smile.

A few girls walked up to Jessi, “Hey, after school, you and your boyfriend want to go swimming with our guys and us?” Jessi looked over, “umm… sure?” The girls smiled at her, “awesome, we will see you at the pool around 6 o’clock for night swim! Jessi stuttered, confused, “a… absolutely.” The one girl said, “see you later!” and ran off with the others. Josh looked at her, “what the hell was that?” Jessi said, “I don’t know, I guess we got to reach out and try to enjoy other bodies, other than just us.” Josh looked worried, “Okay, I guess you aren’t wrong, so we meet up at the pool at 6 o’ clock than?” Jessi responded, “You know it! No skinny dipping though, so bring swim trunks,” she joked. Josh shook his head, “you can’t tell me what to do!” As the bell rang, they went back to class.

6 o’clock hit, and Josh walked up to the pool doors where Jessi was standing. “You ready to mingle, I guess?” Josh nodded, “Yeah, I am kinda nervous.” Jessi patted his head, “Let’s do this!” They walked in and saw the girls not in swimwear, and Josh looked over, seeing the student who had hit him with the soccer ball earlier that day, “What’s up, Billy Corgan? About time you showed up!” Josh took a step back, hitting what felt like a body. He turned around, seeing five bigger guys smirking at him, “sup nerd!” and shoved him. Josh slipped on the water spot and slammed his head on the ground. He saw a flash of red, black, white, and then a ringing. The feeling of warmth rolled off the side of his head, unveiling blood rolling onto the hard floor. The guys and girls busted out laughing. Jessi grabbed onto Josh, yelling, “Josh, are you ok!” while the smell of iron and warm blood rolled off her hands. Josh was still breathing, but in a blank stare, not comprehending anything. The girls grabbed onto Jessi and pulled her away from Josh. “Leave him and me the fuck alone!” Jessi yelled. The guys grabbed onto Josh’s feet and started pulling him. Josh felt his body move, and suddenly the ringing turned into a chattering sound.

The lights began to flicker, on and off, and then went dark. You hear the guys and girls mumbling, “What the fuck is that?” One of the students joked, “It’s clearly Josh scared chattering his teeth,” as they laughed. The lights turned back on, revealing a red mist coming from the pool, and a figure standing awkwardly in front of them. “Who the fuck are you?!” a student yelled, “Are you one of Baldie’s freak friends?” The figure tilted its head, looked over at Jessi now beside Josh, holding him, crying, not knowing what to do, or who that was. The smiling figure looked back over at the students and nodded. All of a sudden, the lights turned off again. Josh could only hear screams from frightened students happening. Jessi held him tighter and whispered, “I will protect you.” The lights flashed on, as the students caught a glimpse of this mysterious, smiling, eerie figure holding the student from behind who threw the soccer ball at Josh. They looked at him as he revealed a tool, reaching towards the student’s mouth. The lights flickered and turned out again. All the students heard screams and a crunching and tearing sound. The lights turned back on, revealing the student, once in the figure’s hands, now on the floor, not breathing. The smiling figure looked over at the others, with what looked like teeth in its hand. They began to scream, and Jessi pulled her head into Josh’s chest, scared. All she heard was ripping, tearing, and screaming. The screams became fewer, and less than what seemed like an hour was done within a few minutes.

The lights flickered back on. Jessi still had her eyes closed, Josh’s vision, now just coming back, as this smiling figure walked up to them. Josh started hyperventilating. The figure is now tilting its head at them. It touched Jessi’s shoulder and grabbed Josh’s hand, placing the teeth into his hand. Josh gripped onto the teeth, and the lights flashed one last quick time. The figure disappeared, Josh lifted his blood-soaked head, “sweetie, remember that story you were talking about earlier today.” Jessi now tears ending but fear still in her eyes, “ye, ye, yes…” she responded. Josh opened his hand, “I don’t think it was the girl, I think it was that…” Jessi nodded, “Wha… what do we tell the police?” Josh is confused, “If we tell them the truth, we get sent to the psych hospital, why should we tell them the truth? We are the silent; our voice is not even heard. This thing was our voice; it screamed for us.” Clearly, someone came in here and kicked my ass, and you got away, rest, well, whatever happened happened. Time we make the call, I have the wounds, and we didn’t kill anyone, this was on them.” Jessi picked up Josh and called 911, “hello 911? Someone ambushed us, killing our classmates and nearly killing my boyfriend.” Jessi finished the call as they held onto one another, walking to the doors where police lights were now seen outside in the hall. With one last flash, they both looked back, revealing that smiling figure, head tilted, smiling, with one nod and wave, the lights went out, and it vanished again. They walked out of the blood-filled room as the police came running up to bring them away from the room.
